Supervision on Food Circulation to Ensure Food Safety in Expo Park

The food supplied for the Expo Park, upon supervision by Shanghai industry and commerce department, leaves the delivery site of METRO Shanghai located at No. 1425, Zhenbei Road today, which symbolizes that the industry and commerce department has begun the overall on-site supervision on those operation enterprises supplying food for the Expo Park.

It is introduced that Shanghai industry and commerce department will supervise the whole process of distribution and delivery of those operation enterprises supplying food for the Expo, inspect strictly the qualification test report for every batch of such food, and supervise enterprises to seal the transport vehicles; it will number every food delivery site in a unified way, urge enterprises’ authorized persons for food safety to sign the invoice and fill in the code number of the delivery site, the number of seal, and the time of delivery, so as to ensure that the causes can be tracked in time once a problem of food quality safety is discovered. At present, the industry and commerce department of this Municipality has assigned nearly 400 qualified officials to over 100 delivery sites supplying food for the Expo to conduct on-site supervision in shift around the clock, so as to ensure safe circulation of food supplied for the Expo.

Since last year, the industry and commerce department of this Municipality has conducted,  step by step, various safeguarding measures for the World Expo: it formulated the Scheme for Ensuring the Safety of Food in Circulation for Expo 2010 Shanghai, and the Emergency Preplan of Shanghai Industry and Commerce System for Safety Accidents of Food in Circulation; assessed and recommended METRO Jinjiang Cash & Carry Co., Ltd. and two other supermarkets as the recommended material supplier of food in circulation for catering service units in the Expo Park;  conducted, in 3 batches, on-site examination, verification and assessment of 751 material suppliers and 7 distribution centers outside the Park that hold the Food Circulation Permit and supply catering service units in the Park.

To make a real improvement of food safety awareness of those operation enterprises supplying food for the Expo, the industry and commerce department formulated the Food Safety Management Norms for Operation Enterprises Supplying Food for Expo 2010 Shanghai, which includes 20 items in 6 aspects, and distributed it to relevant enterprises, so as to ensure that the food operation industry for the Expo has regulations to abide by. Besides, it specially organized the persons in charge of food operation enterprises and the authorized persons for food safety of delivery sites to carry out training on relevant laws and regulations on food safety, urged such enterprises to sign the Commitment Letter on Food Safety for Food Operation Enterprises Supplying Food for Expo 2010 Shanghai, and guided enterprises to improve the management of food safety, and earnestly undertake their statutory responsibilities and obligations as the chief liable person for food safety.
