Administration of Pork Circulation Safety Information in Shanghai Achieved Success—Tracing System to Be Piloted and Promoted

At the meeting on the pilot work of constructing “quality-assured meat” service system held by the Ministry of Commerce in Shanghai on August 12, the pork circulation safety information tracing system—a practical project of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government as well as the first of its kind nationwide, was affirmed by the State Ministry of Commerce and would be spread as experience in other pilot cities. Jiang Zengwei, vice minister of the State Ministry of Commerce, and Tang Dengjie, deputy mayor of this Municipality, attended the meeting.

It is learned that this Municipality had listed the construction of pork circulation safety information tracing system in practical projects of the Municipal People’s Government and that, through over 3 years’ construction and perfection, the system had so far covered 631 standardized vegetable markets, 22 wholesale meat markets (including distribution centers), 164 hypermarkets, 15 hog slaughterhouses, and 30 out-of-town meat enterprises supplying for Shanghai, so as to realize “one card connected, one code tracing” in the whole pork circulation chain. After the completion of tracing system, the sources of several events of “brown meat essence” happened in this Municipality in recent years were traced in several minutes through the information system, all pork were recalled and destroyed as soon as possible, and the safety and health of the masses of people were guaranteed.

Relevant personnel of the municipal commission of commerce revealed that, next step, this Municipality would, by expanding the coverage of the pork circulation safety information tracing system, push forward the establishment of cold chain in the process of meat processing and transportation, accelerate the construction of modernized hog slaughterhouses, and lead large-scale slaughter-enterprises to extend business scope to the upstream industry chain of hog raising, so that the people would be rest assured about the meat supply in this Municipality.
